Shogun Fertilisers - Calmag

Shogun Nutrients Calmag provides a rich source of calcium and magnesium, the two most important secondary macronutrients. Without an adequate supply, your plants will never reach their full potential. Calmag aids the transport of nutrients between different areas of the plant, enhancing the effects of phosphorus and potassium in the later flowering stages, leading to an increase in the quality and weight of the final product.

How Shogun Calmag Works

The team at Shogun set out with a simple, yet highly ambitious brief: to create the most effective nutrient range on the market for a price that’s affordable to every grower. It was a task that required extensive research and development, but after numerous side-by-side tests and detailed analysis of other leading plant nutrition products, they’ve managed to deliver a range that sits proudly alongside the very finest high-end nutrient lines, and at a fraction of the cost. Connoisseur growers often select flagship nutrients from various companies and combine them to create their ideal nutrient regimen. With Shogun, you can achieve the same effect by simply sticking to their complete range, knowing that each component product has been formulated to compete with the very best alternatives available.

Shogun Calmag is an additive that can be used alongside your base nutrient from the late vegetative stages, right through to the end of the flowering stage, just before the final flush. It contains nitrogen (2.6%), calcium (3.2%), magnesium (1.2%) and a trace amount of iron (0.1%). Magnesium is a vital component of chlorophyll, the green pigment that is essential to the process of photosynthesis. Chlorophyll works by capturing light energy, which is then used to synthesize carbohydrates (sugars that plants use for food) from co2 in the surrounding atmosphere and water drawn through roots. Without a healthy supply of magnesium, the process of photosynthesis will slow down to a crawl and the energy produced by your lighting system will be rendered much less effective.

Calcium helps to increase the thickness of cell walls and improves the transportation of nutrients between different areas of the plant, making the nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium in your base feed that much more effective. This in turn fortifies the overall plant-structure, leading to thicker stems and stronger branches, while promoting an all-round increase in vitality. These properties raise plants’ resistance to pests, diseases and negative environmental changes (such as unwanted temperature drops in cold weather).

Don’t be fooled into thinking that secondary nutrients are less important than primary macronutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. In fact, Liebig’s ‘law of the minimum’ dictates that your nutrient regimen is only as effective as the lowest limiting factor (i.e. the nutrient that your plants have the least of in relation to their needs). Without an adequate supply of calcium and magnesium, your plants will simply never reach their full potential. Supplementing with this product will help to avoid deficiencies and ensure that plants make the best use of every other essential nutrient.

How To Use

How to Use Shogun Calmag

This product is an additive and should be applied alongside your regular base nutrient, from the late vegetative stages right the way through the flowering stage. Stop using it before the final flush – generally 1-2 weeks before harvest time. Make up your base nutrient as usual, add Shogun Calmag at a rate of 1ml per litre of solution, then adjust the pH so that it sits in range for your method of growing (generally around 5.8 in hydroponics and 6.5 for soil) and check your EC levels.

Shogun Calmag can also be applied as a foliar feed. Fill your sprayer, add 10-15ml of Calmag per litre of water and pH the solution to around 6.0. Spray directly onto leaves when the lights are off, leaving plenty of time for them to dry out before the lights switch back on again (otherwise you may risk burning). Do this once a week.

As with all nutrients, boosters and additives, never mix them together in their concentrated form (i.e. straight out of the bottle). Always add each nutrient, booster or additive to your reservoir or feed water in turn, giving the solution a good stir to mix it in before adding the next one.
