How Rockwool Propagation Plugs Work

Rockwool holds lots of water and air for fast rooting and growth. Grodan Rockwool Cubes are perfect for growing your rooted cuttings before transplanting into your hydroponics system. The Rockwool is finely spun and is of high quality, and the hole in the top of the cubes is ideal for starting off seeds or rooting your cuttings in.

How To Use

How to Use Grodan Rockwool Propagation Plugs

For best results, soak the large-hole rockwool cubes in very weak nutrient solution or water which has been pH adjusted to about 5.5 and leave overnight. Before use, shake out excess nutrient solution. Cuttings can then be placed directly into the pre-soaked cubes. Seeds can be dropped in to start them off. Once your cuttings are rooted through, they can be transferred into soil, coco or a larger rockwool cube.

Comprehensive instructions about how to take cuttings can be found in various places on the internet. Here is a short guide: place the tray of Rockwool plugs into the bottom of a propagator. Choose healthy shoots with thick stems from which to take your cuttings and make the last cut with a sterile scalpel. Dip the cut end into a rooting gel such as Clonex and then place the end of the cutting into one of the rooting plugs. When you have finished taking your cuttings, put the lid on your propagator and move to a mild environment a few inches underneath a grow-lamp. Keep the rooting plugs moist and mist your cuttings 2-3 times a day. After a few days, when roots begin to appear on the outside of the cubes, open up the ventilation slots on the lid of your propagator to reduce humidity. When your cuttings have completely rooted through the plugs, they can then be placed in a larger rockwool cube, soil or a hydroponics system to grow onwards.
