Digital ballasts regulate the electrical current supplied to an HPS grow lamp, ensuring consistent and efficient performance. They work by converting the standard alternating current (AC) from the power source into direct current (DC) and then back into a high-frequency AC signal, which is more stable and efficient for high intensity discharge lighting systems.
